This is a player who had a chance to play Power 5 football, yet stayed to finish business at William & Mary. In the few chances we’ve talked to Sorsdal, it’s clear from a personality standpoint that he fits with the Lions’ culture. Interior offensive line was a need for the Lions heading into the draft and the team believes it addressed that with the selection of Sorsdal, a William & Mary product, in the fifth round. But the Lions will be patient with their young quarterback so long as Jared Goff is healthy. That’s not a knock against Hooker, who was extremely productive in college and has traits that translate to the NFL. He faces a learning curve in the NFL coming from a QB-friendly offense at Tennessee, and even when healthy, he could be the third option at QB if Nate Sudfeld continues to look strong. Hooker is coming off a torn ACL and hasn’t been cleared to practice. In a perfect world, Hooker would never appear in a game for the Lions in 2023 - save for mop-up duty during a blowout win. So, who has the best shot at early playing? Let’s rank the candidates.
